Summer Camps For ages 9 - 14
During camps that  typically run between 9:30am till 3:30pm for five days during school holidays, children learn how to
write stories, essays, and poems in a fun setting. These camps are perfect both for students already learning the Lekha

Summer 2007 Camps

Lekha Publishers will run eight week-long camps during the months of June, July, and August to coincide with the
summer holidays. Five of these camps cater to children entering fourth or higher grades. For camps catering to
younger children, please see
Summer Camps for ages 7-9.

During the week, children will learn the basics of writing through fun and games. A typical day at the camp starts with a
language warm-up session at 9:30 AM. As the day progresses they would take part in word walkarounds, write, edit,
and type. The day ends at 3:30 PM.

Camps:   
        
Writing Basics:       June 25th through 29th
Proper punctuation, grammar, and composition will be taught through fun and play. Participants will read from
age-relevant literature and will enjoy writing. They will spend an hour on a laptop each day entering in all that they write.
By the end of the week you will see a collection of their writings from various genre.

A typical day at the camp starts with a language warm-up session at 9:30 AM. As the day progresses they would take
part in word walkarounds, read from stories, poems, plays, articles, and essays, They would then write, edit, and type.
The day ends at 3:30 PM .

Write a Story:        July 16th through 20th
Children will learn proper punctuation, grammar, and composition through fun and play. They will read stories from
various genre and start writing a short story. Laptos will be provided for them to format their work. By the end of the
week they will have a first draft of a sto.

A typical day at the camp starts with a language warm-up session at 9:30 AM. As the day progresses they would take
part in word walkarounds, write, recite poetry, act out skits, edit, and type. The day ends at 3:30 PM .

Poetry  and Screenplay:         July 30th through August 3rd

During the week, children will learn the basics of writing through fun and games. Proper punctuation, grammar, and
composition will be taught through fun and play. Children will read poems and plays in various genre.They will start
writing poems and a short skit, which they will then format on a laptop using Microsoft Word or Publisher. By the end of
the week they will have completed the first draft of a colection of poems and a screenplayin a genre and format of their
choice.

A typical day at the camp starts with a language warm-up session at 9:30 AM. As the day progresses they would take
part in word walkarounds, write, tell stories, edit, and type. The day ends at 3:30 PM .


Create A book:A August 13th through 17th.

During this week children will learn the ropes of publishing.* They will create a book using their pre-written work. By
the end of the week they will have five copies of a roughly bound book.

A typical day at the camp starts with a language warm-up session at 9:30 AM. As the day progresses they would take
part in word walkarounds, edit, discuss, tell stories, recite poems, act out skits, and type. The day ends at 3:30 PM .

*Note: No marketing will be done for these books, though some may be published on this website.

Camp fees:     $250.00 for first time participants.
            $225.00 for siblings
            $200.00 for students of Lekha school of Creative Writing and their siblings.
Before and After School childcare: 8:00AM to 9:30 AM
                      and 3:30 PM till 5:00 PM at $5:00/hour.
